2018/19 Membership Renewals

It's Time to Renew.
The 2018/19 Season is Just Around The Corner!

The 2018/19 is coming fast!

Hi << Test First Name >>,
It doesn't feel like it, but winter is slowly about to give way to spring and before you know it, the 2018/19 life saving season will be upon us!  This means fun, sun, and loads of great memories on Melbourne's best beach (alright, that bit might be unofficial, but we know how great it is!)

As usual, we're kicking off early to support our planning for another fantastic season for our valued members and community, but there's lots to do and precious little time to get it done.

To help us with our planning, we're opening membership renewals
from now, so we can plan and prepare for a season of Patrols, Nippers, Competition, Social events and more.

Please take the time to read through this email and follow the instructions to renew your membership.  We're looking forward to seeing you again soon!

If you have any difficulties along the way, feel free to contact Jo at membership@altonalsc.com.au

See you on the beach!

Important Information For This Season

Growth and Volunteerism
Each year the ALSC family grows just a little bit bigger than the last and this past season has been no different, with the club increasing membership numbers by over 10%.

Along with this, our Patrol teams have seen staggering growth in the number of visitors to Altona beach, increasing demand on our Patrol teams for preventative actions, first aids and rescues.

All of this work is done by a small but dedicated group of unpaid volunteers, who give up their time to ensure our important work within the community is done well!

To keep pace with this growth, we're asking that each member consider how they can contribute to this important cause by filling out our Volunteer Questionnaire when you complete your membership renewal.  Whether you think you can help us on the beach, or behind the scenes, your efforts will help us ensure that the work we do, the community feel we love so much, and the positive impact we have on our younger members continues on in to the future.

Club Calendar
We have recently released our draft calendar for the 2018/19 season.  No doubt there will be some changes, but this will allow you to plan your activities well in advance.
You can view and download a copy of the calendar on our website here.

Renewal Instructions

STEP 1: RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP THROUGH SLSA

Complete your online renewal for the 2018/19 season through the SLSA online portal.  You will need to do this for each member of your family unless you have set up and linked a family group.  If so, just select Family from the Memberships menu and then select Renew Memberships.  Please also be sure to check and update your personal information before you complete this step!

Go to the SLSA Member Portal
If you would like to set up a family group now, you can find instructions on how to do this here.

The SLSA member portal is operated by Surf Life Saving Australia and is not a club based system.  For all technical and support issues relating to the portal, please contact the SLSA help desk on 1300 724 006 or by email at surfguardhelp@slsa.asn.au.

STEP 2:  PAY YOUR MEMBERSHIP FEE

Your membership fees need to be payed at the same time you renew your membership and can be paid in one of two easy ways:
Option 1.
Pay securely via credit card through Surf Life Saving Australia’s member portal.
Under the Family page (select Family from the Memberships menu) and choose "Make Payment", then select the membership category which best describes your circumstances.
Go back to the SLSA Member Portal
OR
Option 2.
Pay directly to Altona Life Saving Club via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
Bank:               Bendigo Bank
BSB:                633 000
Account No.:   127768844
Reference:      Your surname

If you choose this option, please also email your payment confirmation to: membership@altonalsc.com.au
Due to ongoing increases in operating costs, the committee has approve a small increase to our membership fees.  As such, the fees for this season are as follows:

If you are experiencing financial hardship we may be able to help.  Please contact Jo at  membership@altonalsc.com.au in the first instance to arrange a confidential discussion with Lisa Curran (President) or Matthew Dunn (Treasurer).

STEP 3:  COMPLETE THE VOLUNTEER QUESTIONNAIRE

To complete the renewal process, all members are required to complete the Volunteer Questionnaire.  This let's us know if you and your family members are available for patrols or how you think you can support the Nippers program this season.

For Nippers roles, we'll get back to you with some information on any of the roles you are interested in.

If you need any further information on each of these roles please check out our website.
Go to the Volunteer Questionnaire

STEP 4:  TAKE NOTE OF THE PROFICIENCY SWIM DATE

(Families with children participating in Nippers only)

All Nippers from Under 8 and above are required to demonstrate the following level of swimming ability to participate in water activities:

For the 2018/19 season ALSC will be once again overseeing all Nippers proficiency swims instead of the third party declarations used in previous years.  This allows us to ensure that our Age Managers and Water Safety are very familiar with your child's swimming ability and understand how we can support their development throughout the course of the season.

At this stage we will be running one session for proficiency swims.  This will be held at the Victoria University Aquatic Centre in Footscray on:
  • Saturday 20th October, 2pm - 4pm
Details will be available on TeamApp shortly by selecting SCHEDULE and then NIPPERS.  Once the TeamApp event is available, please ensure you RSVP.  We will endeavour to minimise waiting times on the day, so please ensure your child comes ready and prepared to swim the distance specified in the table above.

If you have any concerns please contact Jo at membership@altonalsc.com.au

STEP 5:  ENSURE YOU ARE CONNECTED TO THE CLUB ON TEAMAPP

ALSC use TeamApp for most of our club communication, so please ensure that you are not only on TeamApp, but that you are subscribed to the groups most relevant to you and your family.

To do this, select ACCESS GROUPS from the SETTINGS and select the groups for which you would like to receive notifications of scheduled events, team chat messages and more.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK (WWCC)

Reminders were sent out last week to members who's WWCC card has already expired or will expire shortly. Membership renewal can not be finalised until a current WWCC is on file for all adult family members, so please get this done as a matter of priority.

We take the safety and wellbeing of all of our members seriously and the requirement for all members to have a current WWCC will be enforced for all membership applications, new or existing.

RECOMMENDING ALTONA LIFE SAVING CLUB TO FRIENDS?

We love our club's community feel and understand that many of our new members come to us through the recommendations of current members.

If you are recommending ALSC to your friends, please remember to mention that new member registrations commence from 1st September 2018.  New member applications made prior will not be processed until after this date as we wish to give priority to our existing members.

Also, please let everybody know that we will be holding a club information day on Saturday 1st September, 2018 between 11:00am and 1:00pm at our club rooms at 139 Esplanade, Altona.
