2017/18 Membership Renewals

Hi there,
It may be cold outside still but the new life saving season is just around the corner and, along with it, comes another fun summer on the beach!

There's so much to organise and little time to do it, so we're kicking off our membership drive so that we can better prepare for another season of Patrols, Nippers, social events and even more for you, our members.

Please take the time to read through this page and follow the instructions to renew your membership.  We're looking forward to seeing you again soon!

If you have any difficulties along the way feel free to contact Jo at membership@altonalsc.com.au

See you on the beach!

Important Information For This Season

Nippers Program Participant Limit
This year, for the first time, will see the introduction of a cap on the size of the Nippers program.

We are having to do this because, whilst our Nippers program has grown rapidly over the past few years, the number of volunteers who help run the program hasn't kept pace!

To ensure we comply with the strict ratios of Age Managers and Water Safety set by Surf Life Saving Australia, we need to limit the size of the program until we can recruit more people to support our work.

The final cap will depend upon the number of volunteers registering to help out this season.  We will communicate more on this over coming weeks.

What This Means For You
For general club members and patrol members this will make no difference - it may however impact those existing member families with children participating in the Nippers program.

For existing member families with children in Nippers, you are guaranteed to receive a place where you renew prior to 1st September 2017.

Nippers applications received prior to 1st September 2017 will be added to a waiting list and places will be offered from this date in the order in which they were received.

You can renew anytime you like however, from 1st September, places will be filled on a first come, first served basis until the cap is reached.

To avoid any difficulties, please be sure to complete your renewal prior to the 1st September.

Club Calendar
We have recently released our first calendar for the 2017/18 season.  Whilst some things will likely change between now and the start of the season, the calendar allows you to start planning your activities well ahead of time.
You can view and download a copy of the calendar on our website here.

Renewal Instructions

STEP 1: RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP THROUGH SLSA

Complete your online renewal for the 2017/18 season through the SLSA online portal.  You will need to do this individually for each member of your family unless you have set up and linked a family group.  Please be sure to check and update your personal information before you complete this step!

Go to the SLSA Member Portal
If you would like to set up a family group now, you can find instructions on how to do this here.

The SLSA member portal is operated by Surf Life Saving Australia and is not a club based system.  For all technical and support issues relating to the portal, please contact the SLSA help desk on 1300 724 006 or by email at surfguardhelp@slsa.asn.au.

If you are experiencing financial hardship we may be able to help.  Please contact Jo at  membership@altonalsc.com.au in the first instance to arrange a confidential discussion with Lisa Curran (President) or Ashley Wolff (Treasurer).

STEP 3:  COMPLETE THE VOLUNTEER QUESTIONNAIRE

To complete the renewal process, all members are required to complete the Volunteer Questionnaire.  This let's us know if you and your family members are available for patrols or how you think you can support the Nippers program this season.

For Nippers roles, we'll get back to you with some information on any of the roles you are interested in.

If you need any further information on each of these roles please check out our website.
Go to the Volunteer Questionnaire

STEP 4:  ARRANGE YOUR PROFICIENCY SWIM

(Families with children participating in Nippers only)

All children participating in Nippers are required to demonstrate the following level of swimming ability to participate in water events:

For the 2017/18 season ALSC will be overseeing all Nippers proficiency swims instead of the third party declarations used in previous years.  This allows us to ensure that our Age Managers and Water Safety are very familiar with your child's swimming ability and to understand how we can support their development.

We will run two sessions for conducting these proficiency swims.  They will be held at the Victoria University Aquatic Centre in Footscray on:
  • Saturday 21st October, 3pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 28th October, 3pm - 4pm
Details are available on TeamAPP by selecting SCHEDULE and then NIPPERS.  To avoid unnecessary delays on the day, it is important that you RSVP to the session you would like to attend.

If you have any concerns please contact Jo at membership@altonalsc.com.au

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK (WWCC)

Reminders will be sent out this week to members who's WWCC card has already expired or will expire shortly. Membership renewal can not be finalised until a current WWCC is on file for all adult family members.
